ABOUT

Deacon Doug

“It’s time to be contagious with God’s love and drive out hate, fear, and indifference". As the late Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, ‘Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.’” - Deacon Doug

Deacon Doug, internationally renowned as the “Dancing Deacon,” is a dynamic and sought-after motivational speaker in both the Church and secular arenas. His vibrant preaching, deeply rooted in personal testimony and pastoral wisdom, is known for its ability to fill every room with contagious joy and clarity. Deacon Doug has a special passion for spreading the message of the Lord’s liberating power, believing wholeheartedly in God's ability to "set the captives free." His unique preaching style blends personal experiences with scriptural clarity and pastoral challenge. He serves as a revivalist, retreat director, conference leader, and mission speaker.

With a focus on Campus, Youth, and Young Adult Ministry, Deacon Doug’s heart is particularly drawn to “at-risk youth” and those affected by violent crimes, despair, and hopelessness. This commitment to the marginalised inspired Doug to co-author Finding Jesus on the Playground, an intergenerational catechetical guide, and he is co-founder of the Zhakanaka Peace Award, recognizing efforts in peace promotion, literacy, tolerance, and human understanding.

More recently Doug, with his wife, Sheree Brown (the ASCAP Award Winning Songwriter, Musician, and Emmy Nominated Producer), and renowned artist Pixote Hunt co-authored "Zhakanaka, the Word", a children’s fable. The book encourages children to embrace their uniqueness and strive for greatness.

Doug is also the co-founder of Sower LA, an ESNE evangelization ministry focused on young adults, where he hosts a weekly radio show, Soul Time, on ESNE Radio 540 AM.

Deacon Doug has been happily married to Sheree for 44 years. Together, they have two children and four granddaughters, and they reside in Los Angeles, California, where he serves as a permanent deacon at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church under the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Currently, Deacon Doug has been invited to an audience with the Pope and he is completing "Messages From The Soul", part of the "Messages" trilogy. His wife, Sheree, authored and produced the first two instalments—"Messages From The Heart", highlighting women overcoming challenges, and "Messages From The Spirit", focusing on young women’s triumphs. "Messages From The Soul" will feature stories of men overcoming life’s adversities, accompanied by music composed by Sheree, with the goal of promoting healing through storytelling, music, and the arts.
